Storms have caused a widespread power outage in Springfield Wednesday evening.
According to City Water, Light and Power (CWLP), as of 10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 953 customers are without power.
Officials say a lightning strike hit a power pole, which caused 10 power poles to come down near Woodside Road and Second Street. Two transmission lines were also damaged in the process.
The largest outage affects 780 customers located around Trevi Gardens, along and south of Toronto Road, to Lake Springfield west of I-55, as well as a part of Laketown around Circle Drive.
In addition, about 160 customers in eight other areas are without power on Wednesday night.
CWLP said it will take some time to assess the significant damage, but crews are working to restore the power as quickly and safely as possible.
