NEARLY 500 Gympie northside residents are without power after an "unplanned outage" at 5.04am. Gunalda resident Sue Chapman, who has organised a local lobby group to agitate for more reliable power supplies to the area, says residents from Curra to Glenwood and Theebine are angry about repeated blackoauts and brownouts, damaging appliances and costing thousands of dollars in spoiled food. She says 557 consumers in the area were initially without power, but by 8.55am, 74 of those appear to have been switched back on. Ms Chapman says her new Facebook site, launched to protest against unreliable electricity supply in the area, has already gained 190 supporters. And the site is "going off its nut," she told The Gympie Times. Ergon's website says locations affected include Kadina, Mount Kanighan, Sexton, Gunalda, Curra, Glenwood and Theebine. It says "the loss of supply is due to damage requiring emergency repairs. "Fault finding is in progress," the site says. It is unknown when the fault will be fixed.
