An equipment failure believed to be a blown transformer plunged 8,000 Colorado Springs Utilities customers into darkness unexpectedly on Tuesday morning.
Or, it would have, had it not been a bright and sunny day.
The power outage affected some traffic lights, and Colorado Springs police asked drivers to treat the empty signals as four-way stops.
CSU restored power within an hour, by about 11:45 a.m., according to spokesman Steve Berry. The outage affected two large areas in eastern Colorado Springs, running east of Academy Avenue just beyond Powers Street.
