Power restored after large outage in Kzoo C

(WOOD) — Nearly 7,000 homes and businesses in Kalamazoo County lost power late Monday afternoon, but service was soon restored to most. According to the Consumers Energy’s interactive outage map, a total of 6,897 customers in the county were without power around 6 p.m. By around 7 p.m., only about 400 customers were still affected. Service was restored to just about everyone before 11 p.m. The affected area included Kalamazoo, Portage, Parchment, Alamo Township, Texas Township and parts of Schoolcraft and Mattawan. Kalamazoo Valley Community College canceled classes at its Texas Township campus because of the outage. Portage traffic officials say a portion of US-131 was closed because of a downed wire. The highway's southbound lanes were closed at W. Centre Avenue; the northbound were are closed at Shaver Road. Traffic lights were also out in the area, according to traffic officials.
