A late Monday power outage, which affected about 8,800 homes or businesses in Ankeny and Polk City, was caused by animal contact with the substation equipment, MidAmerican Energy reported.
About 8,800 MidAmerican Energy customers in Ankeny and Polk City were without power, the company tweeted at 10 p.m.
As of 10:40 p.m., spokesperson Adam Jacobi said that no information was available on a cause or an estimated time the power would be restored.
"We'll work to restore as many of them as quickly as possible," he said.
Power was restored as of 11:42 p.m., the company reported.
