A drunk driver caused the major power outage in Pendleton Monday night, affecting about 2,000 Pacific Power customers. Police Chief Stuart Roberts tells KUMA News that it happened just after 6 p.m. when Jesse Pugh, 70, of Adams lost control of his car, shearing the power poll off from its post. Roberts says officers investigating the accident ended up arresting Pugh. “We ended up arrest Pugh for DUII,” Roberts says. Pugh was treated and released for minor injuries and then lodged in the Umatilla County Jail. Tom Guant with Pacific Power tells KUMA News that crews worked into Tuesday morning to replace the power pole on SE Court Avenue across from the old St. Anthony Hospital site. Power was restored to all customers around 3 a.m. Pugh also had charges added for criminal mischief because of the damage to the power pole.
