Power has been restored to 1800 homes in Palmerston North after a truck knocked out a power line this morning. A truck took out the dangling power line on SH56, near Te Wanaka Rd on the outskirts of Palmerston North, about 9.30am, police said. Power cuts have been reported in the suburbs of Highbury, Westbrook, Awapuni and other surrounding areas. Powerco Network operations manager Phil Marsh said power was cut to 1800 customers, but was restored to the majority of them by 10.25am. A further 80 properties would have their power restored by about 12.30pm, he said. Police said there were no injuries in the crash. Powerco contractors and police are still at the scene investigating the incident.
