Restructuring Cairo Electricity

Distribution Company

On 1/7/2001, the Holding Company and its affiliatid companies were restructured by separating the production, transmission, and distribution activities. Thirteen companies have been established to take responsibility of these activities. Cairo Electric Distribution Company is one of these companies.

The main regulation for Cairo Electricity Distribution Company has been issued and its fourth element stated that the geographic area for the company's activities includes Cairo, Giza, and the extension of Great Cairo in Kalubia governorate

Due to the large size of this geographic area and overpopulation in the above mentioned governorates, a huge burden is put on the company in supplying the electric service to the citizens in the governorates and in securing the feeding of electricity for the different usages, through a large distribution network covering all cities and villages in the mentioned governorates serving a large number of citizens.  This is clear when comparing the components of this network, the number of customers and the total number of assets and debits, with other distribution companies.

Managing, operating and the maintaining this large network require tremendous efforts and incessant work from the group managing the company, in addition to their work in solving the citizens' problems and facilitating the procedures of securing the stability and continuity of electric supply.  However more concentration and effort are needed for continuous monitoring and supervision of the company's activities to ensure the continuity and stability of the electric supply.

In order to achieve the above mentioned goals, Cairo Electric Distribution Company on 9/11/2004 was divided into two companies:

·        North Cairo Electric Distribution Company

-   In charge of North and East Cairo Serving 21 districts and cities in Great Cairo.

-   Serving 2.83 Million customers with loads reaching 2115M.W.

·        South Cairo Electric company

-   In charge of South and West Cairo and Giza Serving 24 districts and cities of Great Cairo.

-   Serving 3.57 Million customers with loads reaching 2785M.W.
