International Electrical Interconnection

*  Egypt-Libya Interconnection                                            Implemented on 28/5/1998

*  Egypt-Jordan Interconnection                                          Implemented on 21/10/1998

*  Syria-Jordan Interconnection                                           Implemented on 8/3/2000

This resulted in the interconnection of the networks of Syria, Jordan, Egypt, and Libya.

   The Electricity interconnection has proved its technical and economic effectiveness, as it provides exchange of electric power among the interconnected networks, and strengthens stability for all parts of the networks.

Prospective of Electrical Interconnection

·   A study for increasing the exchanged electric energy among Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco to 400/500K.V has been completed, as a part of the technical cooperation between Egypt and the Maghrib region to increase the capacity of transferred energy among the mentioned companies due to the existing interconnection voltage 220K.V An Agreement has been executed among these countries to implement the recommendations of the study according to the recommended schedule in the study.

·   Ensuring the frequencies competability of the Egyptian Grid with the other interconnected arab network which are linked to measurements and tests of the Tunisian- Libyan interconnection.

·   Activating the tasks of the Coordinating Committee for Operating the Arab Interconnected Networks and deciding on its tasks in the operation, performance evaluation, and Development and information systems for the year 2004/2005.

Initiating the Eastern African Power Pool in order to develop the technical cooperation among these countries in the field of securing the energy supply and the optimal usage of the available energy resources in the region, and extending the electric service to the areas which don't have it yet. Also, the aim is to reduce the cost of producing the electricity in the east country of the Nile basin and studying the possibility of electric interconnection

among these countries to exchange the energy and to work on the good coordination among the existing initiatives working producing, transmitting and exchanging the energy. In addition, the aim is to create an investment pool to finance the energy projects in these countries as part of the NYPD initiatives.

·    Establishing a Dispatch Center similar to that of the European Grid.
