Extending the use of

New & Renewable Energy

The Electricity Sector Strategy is based on the diversity of fuel sources, extended use of renewable energy, and rational use of conventional resources of energy, within the frame of the general plan of energy in Egypt.

The renewable energy strategy at present aims at a 3% contribution of the total energy demand by the year 2010, depending particularly on the wind energy. Egypt actually enjoys great capabilities in this field, as the capacity of this source amounts approximately to20000 MW in the Red Sea area, in addition to other sources using thermal and direct solar energy.

It's noteworthy there is the biggest wind farm (140M.W) located tn the Middle East and Africa in El-Zaafarana by the Suez GULF which is connected to the Unified Power Grid.

EEHC co-operates with the New & Renewable Energy Authority which is responsible for extending the use of renewable energy in Egypt - through the following:

v      Planning for generation, taking into consideration the contribution of renewable energy.

v      Planning for electric networks to ensure absorption of electric energy generated from the renewable energy projects.

v      Executing into agreements for the purchase of energy generated from wind farms at suitable prices to encourage the use of renewable energy.
