Second: The rehabilitation & development achievements:-

In order to protect the machinery, to extend its estimated lifetime and to follow the technological advances the Power plant has been rehabilitee on developed since 1982 until now as follows:

1.      The machinery of the station was rehabilitated in interval from 1982 to 1995 with the cost of 140 Million Dollars a local component of 40 million Egyptian pounds, and the following has been achieved:

-         Rehabilitation of the 12 turbine blades and their speed governors from 1987 to 1991.

-         Rehabilitation of the protection systems of the grid, 500k.v between1987 and 1991.

-         Rehabilitation of the circuit brakers 500k.v and current transformers from 1990 to 1993.

-         Rehabilitation of the inlet and outlet gates of the hydro plant tunnel    from 1992 till 1995.

-         Rehabilitation 15.75k.v generator circuit brakers from 1993 to 1994.

2.      The rehabilitation of the control and protection systems:

The control and protection systems were updated of the High Dam by the end of the year 2003 with a total cost of 19 Million Dollar and 11 Million Egyptian Pounds for the local component.

3.      Rehabilitation of the generators:

This project aims at extending the expected lifetime of the station generators to 35 years, as well as increasing the efficiency and availability. The actual execution started in September 2004 after signing the contract in 16/10/2003 with the company in charge, with a cost of 78.9 million euro, in addition to 5.9 million Egyptian pounds. The project will end on May 2010 by executing two units connected with one tunnel each year.

4.      Rehabilitation of the Power transformers:

The technical specifications were designed in order to replace the tow auto-transformers T13&T14 with voltage 500/132/15.75k.v to 500/220/11k.v with a large capacity of 500M.v.i for one transformer. The estimated cost for the project is 8 million euro. An international tender has been launched in January 2004 and the analysis is being carried on for the tenderers who submitted their proposals.

5.      Rehabilitation of the 132k.v grid to 220k.v:

The technical specifications were put and the tender was launched in January 2004 and the analysis is being carried on for the tenderers who presented their proposals.
